Children & Youth

• After-School Tutoring (Youths 7-16 years) Qualified tutors to help children perform well in every subject area and build confidence.

• B.A.B.E.S. (Beginning Alcohol Addiction Basic Education Services)— (Presented to second graders)

 A prevention program using puppets and stories that address the concepts of self-esteem, sexual abuse, alcohol, drugs and prevention.

• Boy Scouts (Youth grades 6-7) Fun, adventure, and leadership development skills.

• Cub Scouts (Boys grades 2-5) Fun learning, character building, and family involvement.

• Y.E.A.H. (Youth Educational Achievement Hour)—(Youth grades 2-5) this service facilitates childhood growth and development.

• Brightmoor Youth Adventure Leadership Training Program Hands -on leadership training for high school youth held during the summer

• Detroit Young Citizens Teens (ages 14-17) Leadership development, social/recreational activities, community service, weekly meetings

• Leaping Forward Groups Groups held at local elementary schools designed to facilitate childhood growth and development

• Stepping up Career Mentoring Program Helping youth discovers their talents and possible future careers. For 10th-12th grades at Detroit Community High School

• Karate (Youths 7-18 years) Jabari's Martial Arts Academy Tuesday 6:30 - 7:30 P.M. Parents welcome to attend with children

• New St. Paul Head Start (Children 3-5 years) A free pre-school program offering free computer training, CPR, certified staff, free nutritional meals, parent support services, speech and language services. 313.535.9031

• Skillman Good Neighborhoods Initiative  All Brightmoor youth will have access to and participate in a range of year round program during non-school hours that  encourage growth and positive social development.

 


Adult

Parenting Classes Eight-session program leading to a certificate. Classes meet every Wednesday from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.

• Alcoholics Anonymous Sundays, 7:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m. Discussion meeting. Call 313-831-5550 (AA Hotline)

• Narcotics Anonymous Sundays, 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

• Information and Referral Short-Term Counseling Parenting Classes A parent education program that focuses on parenting children with help from a Parenting  Educator and other parents.

• Food & Friendship (Mon-Thur 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Ages 60+)
